Fish database

The Fish Database contains information on all fish species found in the Arabian Gulf. It represents just a small portion of a much larger global information system known called "FishBase" (for more information on the global database, please visit www.fishbase.org).

Biodiversity, distribution, and biology data for the Arabian Gulf region was extracted from FishBase and and used to develop an information system entirely focused on the Gulf. This involved updating the coverage of all aspects of the biology of the species making up its ecosystem, with priority being given to the 47 Priority Fish species that were identified as most important by regional stakeholders.

The Fish Database for the Arabian Gulf contains a total of 868 records, each containing information regarding appearance, class, order, and family. The site is maintained the Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia.  A subset of these represents priority fish species for which the impacts of climate change were explored by applying various modeling frameworks.

The Non-Fish Database contains information on all non-fish species found in the Arabian Gulf. It represents just a small portion of a much larger global information system known called "SeaLifeBase" (for more information on the global database, please visit http://www.sealifebase.org).

Biodiversity, distribution, and biology data for the Arabian Gulf region was extracted from SeaLifeBase and and used to develop an information system entirely focused on the Gulf. This involved updating the coverage of all aspects of the biology of the species making up its ecosystem, with priority being given to the 8 Non-Fish species that were identified as most important by regional stakeholders.

The Non-Fish Database for the Arabian Gulf contains a total of 2,194 records, each containing information regarding class, order, family and appearance in many cases. The site is maintained the Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia. A subset of these has been selected by stakeholders as priority non-fish species for which the impacts of climate change were explored by applying various modeling frameworks.
